Nexstar Media Group’s KXAN-TV Austin, Texas, was nominated for a Service to Community Award in the Television – Large Market category.

In Texas, mental health experts estimate that one in six students is significantly affected by mental illness. As state leaders looked to address the issues within schools, KXAN explored potential solutions across Texas and beyond. With over 50 team members, this local station travelled across the country to report on solution-oriented stories of saving students dealing with mental illness. Through a partnership with the Solutions Journalism Network, the campaign grew through exclusive interviews, social media livestreams and interactive online tools to showcase the experiences reported across the country. This campaign not only helped save young lives but also served as a resource to let students and communities know they are never alone.
