Nexstar Broadcasting’s WGN-TV Chicago aired "WGN News Special Report: The COVID-19 Divide" on May 21 to explore the racial divide in the impact of COVID-19. Hosted by anchors Micah Materre and Lourdes Duarte, the special featured community leaders, medical professionals and state officials, including Illinois Lieutenant Governor Juliana Stratton.
Guests discussed the wealth, health and death gaps that lead to higher numbers of COVID-19 in Chicago’s black and Latinx populations. Chicago community activists Father Michael Pfleger from Saint Sabina Church and Dr. Carol Adams, president of Urban Prescriptives, also provided insights into the impact of COVID-19 on minority communities.
