Quincy Broadcasting’s NBC-affiliate WGEM-TV Quincy, Ind., partnered with local schools and the Salvation Army to deliver 1,350 food baskets to local families during the holiday season. Food was collected during the 32nd annual “Fall Harvest Food Drive,” which ran throughout the month of October. Local schools competed to collect the most food items per student, with the top school receiving a $1,000 donation from WGEM-TV.
WGEM-TV also raised $41,500 from December 9 - 12 for the Salvation Army during the 35th annual “Bucket Blitz” donation drive. To encourage listener donations, the station held several live broadcasts from the collection location and took donations online. The total raised will help fund Salvation Army’s various programs, including running a local shelter for people experiencing homelessness.
