NBC-owned WBTS Boston aired an investigation that prompted U.S. Senator Ed Markey to contact Tesla with concerns about safety flaws in the autopilot system. That report, which aired on November 11, was a follow-up from investigative journalist Ryan Kath on a September story about a driver who fell asleep behind the unmanned wheel on the Massachusetts Pike.
"According to a recent news report on NBC Boston, Tesla drivers have identified a variety of ways to circumvent the safety alerts and automatic shut-off feature that are designed to activate when a user of Autopilot is no longer paying attention to the road," Markey said in his letter to Tesla.
