In the wake of Hurricane Maria, a local Tallahassee couple started collecting relief supplies for the residents of their hometown Jayuya, P.R. Gray Television’s WCTV Tallahassee, Fla., covered the couple’s efforts and within days, several truckloads of relief supplies were collected and sent to Jayuya. To help further, a WCTV crew traveled to Jayuya to document how the donated materials helped Puerto Ricans recover from the devastation. The station also highlighted the continued struggles many were having getting money for housing repairs. Rather than waiting for the Federal Emergency Management Association to approve or deny financial aid, the station helped raise funds, equipment and materials to help provide new roofs for homes in Jayuya.

WCTV received the NAB Leadership Foundation’s Service to Community Award for Television – Small Market at the 2019 Service to America Awards Gala for their efforts.
