TEGNA’s NBC affiliate KARE-TV Minneapolis aired an investigative report in December 2018 showing that the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs denied emergency room claims for thousands of local veterans. The confusing rules and bureaucratic oversights burden veterans with unnecessary debt and the continuation of medical issues.
