The Scripps Howard Foundation donated 100,000 books on National Reading Day (January 23), as part of their second “If You Give a Child a Book” campaign. Each dollar received from Scripps employees is matched by members of the Scripps family and all proceeds are used to to buy books for children in need. All books are purchased at cost through a partnership with Scholastic, further maximizing the purchase power of every donated dollar.

Scripps’ ABC affiliate WXYZ-TV and MyNetworkTV affiliate WMYD-TV Detroit donated $10,000 as a part of the campaign, to be matched by members of the Scripps family. The books purchased with the donations benefited a local school for at-risk children and adults in Detroit.

“It’s an honor to work for a company that puts such a high value on giving back to the community,” said Mike Murri, WXYZ-TV and WMYD-TV vice president and general manager. “We are thrilled to be able to advance the great work that is being done at St. Vincent and Sarah Fisher Center through the generosity of the Scripps family.”
