For the 25th consecutive year, Citadel Communications’ KCAU-TV Sioux City, Iowa hosted its annual Operation Toys, partnering with a local business to collect new toys for needy families of Sioux City and surrounding communities. Channel 9 KCAU-TV ran a schedule of promotional spots on-air and within their newscasts for the campaign. The station also sent letters to area schools and pre-schools inviting them to host internal toy drives and featured the schools’ successes during evening newscasts. All the toys were donated to the Salvation Army for distribution in the community.
