As we approach the 2024 elections, the efforts to mobilize and engage Hispanic voters have taken center stage across the broadcasting industry. From national campaigns like NAB's Hispanic Media GOTV Coalition to local radio stations and television shows, broadcasters are providing essential election-related information to Spanish-speaking communities. These efforts, paired with celebrations of Hispanic Heritage Month, are empowering millions of Latino voters to make informed decisions and participate actively in the democratic process. The following key initiatives showcase broadcasters' commitment to voter education, combating misinformation and celebrating the rich cultural heritage of Hispanic Americans.
The Hispanic Media GOTV Coalition, led by NAB and its partners, plays a pivotal role in empowering Latino communities during election seasons. Through the Martes de Acción (Tuesdays of Action) campaign, the coalition not only provides Spanish-speaking voters with critical resources about voter registration and election logistics but also combats misinformation targeting these communities. Coalition members want to ensure that millions of Hispanic voters can confidently participate in the democratic process and make informed decisions at the ballot box. The coalition’s efforts help increase voter turnout and safeguard the voices of one of the nation's fastest-growing demographics.
NAB's Broadcast Leadership Training (BLT) program has been instrumental in shaping Sulma Avenancio’s leadership approach as senior vice president for New England at Entravision Communications. One of the most impactful lessons she applied from this graduate-level program was identifying individual skill sets to create stronger, more unified teams. Overseeing several departments across Entravision's stations, including WUNI, WUTF, WUVN, WHTX and WUTH, Sulma emphasizes the importance of every team member’s unique strengths in driving overall success. During Hispanic Heritage Month, Sulma has taken these leadership lessons to the next level by spotlighting local Latino business owners and their contributions to the community. Her team has showcased entrepreneurs such as Alejandro Castillo of Alex Chimi's, Mario Mena of Vinas Tapas & Wine, Ana Alfaro of El Show de Analeh and Hector Roldan of Xtreme Rides, connecting these leaders with their communities. Sulma also emphasizes the importance of bridging connections between Latino audiences and new business owners, helping advertisers understand their viewers while strategizing to meet business goals. By amplifying the stories of Hispanic business owners and applying the strategies she gained from Broadcast Leadership Training, Sulma ensures these businesses are celebrated and recognized.

These events will provide a platform for both political leaders to address key issues important to the Hispanic community, as part of Univision’s commitment to delivering comprehensive election coverage. The town halls will focus on topics relevant to Spanish-speaking voters, ensuring they receive the information they need to make informed decisions in the upcoming election.
“Noticias Univision serves as a two-way bridge: we bring every voice to our community while conveying the concerns of Latinos to those in power,” said Daniel Coronell, president of Noticias Univision. “There are more than 36 million Hispanics eligible to vote in the U.S., making them the largest minority in the country, with the power to influence the outcome of the race for the White House and the future of the nation,” he added.

Through impactful messaging across TV, radio and digital platforms, this initiative seeks to inspire the Latino electorate to take an active role in shaping the future of the country by voting.
This summer, Latino Media Network launched its comprehensive Get Out the Vote campaign across 15 radio stations in key Hispanic markets, including Las Vegas, Fresno, Los Angeles, McAllen, San Antonio, Dallas, Chicago and Miami. The campaign focused on increasing voter turnout within the Hispanic community by airing public service announcements (PSAs) and rolling out social media initiatives. Beginning with Invite to Vote PSAs, the campaign featured voter registration reminders and culminated in Where to Vote and Vote Today messaging as Election Day approaches. Latino Media Network partnered with Mi Familia Vota and Mi Familia En Acción, directing audiences to a Spanish-language voter registration website, ensuring that Hispanic voters had the necessary resources and information to make their voices heard.
